The HK Prize was launched by the Society for Hong Kong Studies to recognise the work of scholars who have contributed to the advancement of Hong Kong studies and its global recognition. It is the newest addition to the International Convention of Asia Scholars (ICAS) book prizes family. It is a high-level, open competition, with a prize fund of HK$200,000.
Winners of the HK Prize 2022 were announced at a ceremony on Friday. The winning entries reflect the dynamism and creativity of Hong Kong, and will help society explore fresh opportunities brought about by our new stage of development and the high-quality growth of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
China Daily’s senior reporter Jenny Wang Yuke won two awards, including first runner-up and the second merit, in the Arts and Culture News Reporting category. Reporter Oasis Hu won the third merit in the same category for her “Art Tech Series.” Veteran page design team Mok Kwok-cheong and Billy Wong Siu-kay won first runner-up and the first merit in the Best News Page Design (Single) and News Page Design (Series) categories respectively.
The Shaw Prize, the world’s most prestigious award in science, is awarded to scientists for outstanding research in astronomy, life sciences and medicine, and mathematics. The Shaw Prize Foundation and the Hong Kong Science Museum are jointly organising this exhibition, which will introduce the Shaw Laureates’ fascinating research journeys.
HK Prize 2022, the fifth edition of the competition, attracted more than 200 entries from across the region. Submissions were judged by a panel of leading scholars in the field, which included Prof Stuart M. McManus from the University of California, Los Angeles. Winners were presented with their awards at a ceremony on 23 November, and will be invited to attend the inauguration of this year’s HK Prize exhibition in December.
The Hong Kong Prize is the leading scholarship award in Hong Kong and is sponsored by the Society for Hong Kong Studies. It aims to recognise the work of scholars who have contributed in various ways to the promotion and advancement of Hong Kong studies and its global recognition.
Each entry consists of a written paper and a visual presentation. Both the paper and the presentation should focus on the theme of the competition. The judging panel will choose the top five entries for each category. The winners will receive a cash prize of HK$10,000 and a certificate.
The organisers of the HK Prize, a group of academics and community leaders, have set up this award to honour the achievements of those who have made valuable contributions towards the development of Hong Kong. They hope that the HK Prize will continue to serve as an incentive for scholars to further their research on Hong Kong, and that it will become a platform for researchers and students to share their ideas on the topic.
