Data hk is the process of collecting, storing and analysing information to make informed business decisions. Its use is widespread across the financial services, insurance and marketing sectors as well as government agencies.
To deliver greater value from datasets, they can be enriched with additional information (as referred to as “metadata”) from external sources like weather or government demographic data, for example. This enrichment adds context to the datasets which helps users understand and analyse them in different ways.
Under the PDPO, where a data user engages a processor (whether in Hong Kong or abroad) to carry out data processing activities on their behalf, they must ensure that personal data that they have transferred to the processor is protected against unauthorised or accidental access, processing, erasure, loss or use by the processor. This is known as the “data processor’s liability” and is governed by DPP2 and DPP4. This is in addition to the obligations of the data user under the PDPO.
