The Hongkong Prize and Other Prizes

The hongkong prize is one of the most prestigious writing competitions in Asia. It attracts thousands of entrants each year and offers cash prizes and other perks for winners. However, before entering the contest, it is important to read all the rules and regulations thoroughly. This way, you can avoid any issues that could lead to your disqualification from the competition.

The ICAS Book Prize for Global Hong Kong Studies is now accepting submissions. The award aims to recognise excellence in research conducted by young Fellows of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine. The winning author will receive an engraved gold medal and a prize equivalent to HK$25,000. Submissions are open to principal authors who have been awarded Academy Fellowship within the past 10 years. The competition will be judged by a panel of senior scholars in Hong Kong and abroad.

This year, the award has honoured five researchers in Hong Kong. Among them, Ng Siew Chien was recognised for her contributions in developing noninvasive tests for early diagnosis and timely intervention of gastrointestinal tract and autism spectrum disorders. Another awardee, Zhang Hua, was honoured for her breakthroughs in phase engineering of nanomaterials and 3D micro- and nanofabrication. The other two awardees, Chen Shih-chi and Wang Cong, were cited for their discoveries on innovative data and AI security technologies.

Established in 2022, the BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize (BOC STIP) is an independent merit-based award organised by HKATI and sponsored by Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited. It aims to reward outstanding scientific researchers and research teams in Hong Kong or research-related institutions set up by Hong Kong higher education institutions and located in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area for their significant achievements in the areas of artificial intelligence and robotics; life and science; new materials and new energy; and advanced manufacturing and fintech.

The winning research findings should have a direct impact on society, with potential to significantly improve people’s lives and the economic development of the special administrative region. The research work can be in any field of science and technology, including but not restricted to, artificial intelligence, robotics, biomedicine, materials science, physics, chemistry, mathematics and computing.

HK Prize will continue to strengthen the ties between Hong Kong and the rest of the world by rewarding excellent researchers in both disciplines, providing a platform for them to share their knowledge and experience and contribute to Hong Kong’s future development.

Applicants can submit their entries to the HK Prize starting March 1 via the “World of Winners” splash page. Southeast Asian residents will be eligible in the first wave, followed by Mainland Chinese and international applicants. The judging process will take into account the quality and relevance of research results, as well as the impact and originality of the findings. The result will be announced in the second half of this year.
