The BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize

The HK Phil is the first orchestra to win the prestigious award, which was presented by a jury of leading scientists from around the world. The HK Phil is grateful for the generous support of the Hong Kong SAR Government, Principal Patron the Swire Group and music-lovers in Hong Kong and beyond. The HK Phil would also like to express its special appreciation to the team of musicians who have spent four years working on this landmark project to record Wagner’s Ring Cycle and the engineers who have helped turn it into a box-set available worldwide.

The BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize, title sponsored by Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited, was established in 2022 to recognise scientific researchers in the Hong Kong special administrative region. Five scholars from different universities in the city were awarded the prestigious prize today, with each taking home a total of HK$2 million for their research in artificial intelligence and robotics, life and health, new materials and new energy, advanced manufacturing, and fintech.

Applicants must be a Fellow of the Academy with at least one published full paper in the HKJO during the submission period. Papers can be in any specialty, and include prospective or retrospective clinical studies, observational studies, epidemiological studies, basic science studies, meta-analysis, etc. However, case reports, reviews, letters to the editor and conference reports will not be considered for the award.

The review process for the BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION PRIZE will be performed professionally, objectively and fairly. An independent review procedure has been formulated, and no organisation or individual shall exert undue influence in the evaluation. The winners are selected based on the quality of scientific and technological innovation achievements, their influence in the transformation of R&D outcomes, and their impact on society or economic value created. In addition, the awardees should support the Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China and have high social morality and professional ethics.
